Overview
FaxMaker Online users may sometimes be unable to receive inbound faxes through their assigned fax number that was known to be working before. Calling the fax number gives a normal ring tone rather than the expected fax tone and faxes sent to the number fail with a 'No Answer' error to the sender with the following information:
Error Class: 209715206
Error Code: 4350
Error Extra: 13487
Error String: No Answer
Fax tracking number: 805-18967179
Solution
According to FaxMaker Online Error String Explanations, the No Answer
error indicates that the line was not picked up (answered) by a fax machine or person before timing out. The timeout is sufficient to ensure a minimum of 5-8 standard rings, which is a duration of 55 seconds.
This error can occur when the fax number is assigned to a user who has been suspended by the FaxMaker Online administrator thereby effectively disabling all inbound fax activity to that number and the associated suspended user.
The solution for this scenario is to activate the suspended user which will in turn reactivate the assigned fax number and enable inbound faxing. Alternatively, the fax number can be assigned to a different user if currently unassigned.
The recommended best practice to mitigate this scenario which often occurs when there are staff changes in an organization that necessitate user account suspension or deletion is to have the organization's fax number assigned to a generic FaxMaker Online user account that will never be removed and thereafter add up to 3 user email addresses in the receive addresses list to be receiving faxes sent to this number. See Changing the User Configured for Receiving Faxes with GFI Faxmaker Online for more information.
If any of these users leave the company, you can simply remove the email address from the receiving addresses list without impacting the organization's ability to receive inbound faxes.
Testing
Dialing the assigned fax number should give a normal fax tone once it is associated with an active user. Fax recipients should now be able to receive inbound faxes without any errors.
